It is near time that HIV+ heterosexuals are recognized as a minority, not in general society terms, but any local HIV group is 95-100% gay populated. I appreciate the gay activist movements in the 80s to make treatments better and less toxic, the gay community paved the way for heteros, transsexuals, lesbians, bisexuals, etc. However, I have been refused events ad help due to my sexual preference, not sure why these organizations even need to know my prefs, but usually part of the top 5 questions asked. I have even pretended to be gay to get the help I needed in the past which I could not when I said I was straight. Even ASOs (AIDS service orgs) that said they accept everyone, I was asked not to attend groups sessions as I would feel uncomfortable or may not be accepted as heterosexual males are often bashers and drunks/druggies.
| Surprising that there are no heterosexual HIV/AIDS organizations in Canada, especially since heteros are the majority of new and recent cases. Why are 90% of our POZ orgs only here to help 1/5 the people who need these services? This is my main reason for setting up and creating www.HeteroPOZ.com with my disability money. In fact, I am so determined to offer what people need I have created many HIV+ sites for those of us infected or affected. You can find a menu of my sites @ http://www.WHAK.com. |
